Too many of our communities have been plagued by gun violence — enough is enough. Instead of making our communities safer, Republicans passed a permitless carry law, which eliminated background check and safety training requirements. Emily will fight for commonsense gun violence prevention measures, such as universal background checks, assault weapon bans, and community intervention programs.

No parent should have to worry about their child being shot while playing outside or going to school, yet that is the harsh reality for many families in our District. Dangerous policies like permitless carry put our public safety at risk by allowing anyone to carry hidden, loaded guns in public without background checks, permits, or training. Emily knows that laws like permitless carry and "Stand Your Ground" only result in more innocent lives lost, and as a Moms Demand Action Gun Sense Candidate, she is committed to advocating for long-term solutions to end the gun violence in our communities.

During her time in the Florida Senate, Emily worked directly on a bill to create “The Urban Core Gun Violence Task Force”, which was modeled off the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Commission to investigate the root causes of the gun violence plaguing our communities and provide strategic recommendations on how local and state government agencies can work together to reduce it.
